“Proud Mary”

We got the call… the Prairie Lily was going to be launched. My niece works on the boat. We just happen to love boats. Our daughter sailed the Pacific on a two masted schooner. The sun was shining. How often do you get to see a huge boat (for Saskatoon) get put into the river? The driver who was taking the boat down to the river bank had flown in the from the states that morning. The boat had a story. So I grabbed my camera…

The entire journey was an amazing story. I was there to capture this chapter of her trip to our river. But it was still a long chapter. You don’t just drive a boat down to the river and slide it in. There were power lines to lift. Then they needed two men to lift the power lines so we waited for Sask. Power to send another unit. Boats and trees don’t always go together. Eventually the boat arrived at the new south end bridge which is under construction. This is where she was to be launched. By this time the sun had disappeared behind the clouds. The wind was picking up. Big machines were there building a hard packed road for the truck and the boat to back down. Even boats need all kinds of friends to get into the river. And that’s only the first paragraph of this chapter!

Every picture tells a story. Enjoy the story…

“Big wheel keep on turnin’
Proud Mary keep on burnin’
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on the river
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on the river.”
