My Wish

Today was the day… going home to be with family. It was Katelyn and Vanessa’s Graduation Day.  We had found the place to take their pictures several weeks earlier. I waited out at the old farm yard for Katelyn and her family to arrive.

It is a beautiful June afternoon. A car is coming down the road leaving a trail of dust. It stops at the side of the road and Katelyn gets out… I smile as I see her walk down the old road. I think about how her mom and dad must be feeling, seeing Katelyn on her last day of high school. It’s her Mom’s smile and her Dad’s laugh that tells me they are so proud of her. And her two brothers think she is wonderful. It’s her Graduation Day!

“I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow
And each road leads you where you want to go
And if you’re faced with the choice and you have to choose
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you. ”

Just The Way You Are

The princess shop is a non-profit organization that provides a graduation experience for those young women that would not otherwise have the same experience as their classmates.  The girl’s hair and make-up are professionally done.  They get to choose the dress of their dreams. Everyone donates their services and time……..

I had the privilege of meeting and photographing some of these girls. It was a cloudy cool morning. It looked like rain. But these girls with their infectious smiles, laughter and absolute enjoyment would have brightened anyone’s day…

“When I see your face, there’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing, just the way you are.
And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while
Because girl you’re amazing, just the way you are.”

Ten minutes after they drove away it poured!

Here are a few of this year’s graduates.

Right Now

Two grew up across the street from each other. The third one lives three doors down. They have been friends since they were little. As we walked and took pictures we talked about their greatest moments in high school and of the friends they will never forget. They told me about some of their dreams and aspirations for the future.

“It’s your tomorrow right now.”

Congratulations!

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing

Just how do poppies bloom? I woke up one beautiful sunny morning and decided that I would sit and watch my poppies open up. They looked like they were ready to unfold. So I got my camera and sat down and started waiting. Friends and neighbours stopped by and asked what I was doing… None of them had ever seen a poppy open. It turned cold and it began to rain. Night came and all the other poppies closed their petals. I rushed out early the next morning to watch my poppy open. It had opened already.

But it was another beautiful day and I knew this time I would see a new poppy open. I would try again… Sitting, waiting and wishing. Noon came and went. Six clock incredible light and still my poppy refused to open. I ran out the next morning and there was my poppy laughing at me.

THE THIRD DAY CAME and once again the sun was shining and I knew this time… I would see it open. I would try again… Sitting, waiting and wishing. Noon came and went. Six clock incredible light and still my poppy refused to open.

Just wait a minute.
Just sitting waiting.

Night came and this time I knew for certain that when I went out in the morning, my poppy would have bloomed. So I am still sitting, waiting and wishing..

You Are My Sunshine

Down another country lane…  Its a cool, cloudy evening. We walk up the path to the house. The door flies open and out runs Nicky!  Everyone is busy talking… Nicky and I grab my camera…

You make me happy when skies are grey.

Better Together

Katelyn and Vanessa grew up together in the small town in southern Saskatchewan just down the road from each other. They happen to be best friends as well as cousins. They have spent their entire lives together. If you wanted to find one you just had to look for the other. If they weren’t at Vanessa’s house, they were at Katelyn’s.  And now in a week they will graduate. So last week we went out to visit them and check out locations to shoot their graduation pictures.  You only need to spend the afternoon with them to know …. Well, it’s always better when we’re together.

Isn’t She Lovely

Isn’t she wonderful! You will remember her from the previous blog eating her cake. With those beautiful blue eyes how could you not? She is such a sweetheart and her smile is just contagious. She recently turned one year old and is busy exploring the world around her.

Georgia On My Mind

I first met Georgia when she was 6 months old. Now she is celebrating her first birthday! Her Mom had brought her sister for her first birthday pictures and now here was Georgia for hers. The pictures tell the story! A very special little girl, her first birthday cake and what better way to celebrate then to have your cake and eat it too!

Happy Birthday Georgia!

Sittin’ On Top Of The World

What could be better than sittin’/skiin’ on top of the world. Well so I couldn’t ski this year because of my arm. But Matt and his cousins had a great time skiing. So I got my tripod and camera and set out to explore the top of the world…

Benjamin, Matt, Nicky and Katelyn…what more could you ask for…mountains, great snow and cousins to explore and laugh with on the top of the world…
